About Us

Smith-Karng Architecture, Inc. was established in 2001 in San Francisco, California and is a full-service architectural firm with a team experience in hospital, laboratory, and pharmacy renovations and the HCAI (formerly OSHPD) regulatory review process. We provide architectural and design services for renovations, adaptive reuse of existing facilities, installations and relocations of specialized medical equipment, life safety and infrastructure upgrades, master planning, and temporary emergency equipment. With continued growth and an expanding client base, SKA has established a second office in Palo Alto to better serve clients across the Peninsula and Silicon Valley, strengthening our ability to provide responsive, locally engaged project delivery.

Strategy

Our strategy is to work together with the state agencies as early as possible in the design process, be proactive in solving issues early in the design process to prevent costly change orders during construction and expedite the project approvals when time is short. Collectively, the team has completed over 500 OSHPD approved projects. We have worked with OSHPD since our inception in 2001and have a strong working relationship with the staff which allows us to communicate directly.
